Counterfeit Currency Detection
The act of counterfeiting is probably as old as money itself. Hundreds of years ago counterfeiters would shave the edges off coins, a process called "clipping", and use the shavings to make counterfeit coins.
As paper money has developed, so have new methods of counterfeiting and new methods of thwarting would-be counterfeiters. Counterfeit Currency results in an estimated $9.3 million in losses each year.
Educating your retail merchants on how to recognize legitimate bills and the security features that each series of currency employ is an important part of deterring this form of fraud.
Concord Security has partnered with the Bank of Canada to provide merchant education seminars on the topic of counterfeit currency detection. The seminars are approximately 45 minutes long and provide merchants a hands-on opportunity to learn how to identify counterfeit currency as well as ask questions. The presentations are conducted free of charge by a representative from the Bank of Canada and also include materials and resources that merchants can share with their coworkers.
If you are interested in arranging a session at your property, contact your Concord Account Manager or email us.
